The whole funnel rests on one belief: at the end of it is a person who can be persuaded, and if they hesitate you can chase them.
Thursday put a hole in that.
Mastercard launched an agentic payment option with the startup Alchemy, Gizmodo reported: a virtual card issued to a consumer's AI bot, capped on how much it may spend and on what, after which the bot buys on its own without asking again. Visa already works with the same startup, and the Wall Street Journal ran it as mainstream business news.
Read what Mastercard's own AI chief says about the plumbing. "We've built a bunch of risk rules over time that were intended to stop a bot from transacting," Greg Ulrich, its chief AI and data officer, said at a conference earlier this year. "Now we need to enable the bot to transact, so that requires a change to our risk framework and our risk rules."
Fraud systems spent fifteen years learning to spot automation and refuse it. Now they learn the opposite.
What it does to marketing is worse. A capped card does not respond to urgency, does not see your retargeting, and does not abandon a cart you can rescue with a discount email. It reads your feed, checks price and stock, and moves on. Your creative budget is arguing with a purchase order.

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads
Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:
After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.
The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.
“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”
Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
TALK ON THE MARKET
Zoe Lazarre, CMO of Genentech, on where the job moved, in conversation with McKinsey:
It's no longer waiting nine months to get a report. It's almost real-time feedback on the effectiveness of that campaign.
Her marketers now own the chain end to end, insight to content to measurement, instead of buying the last three steps. That is the quiet part of every AI efficiency story: the savings arrive as work you used to outsource and now have to be good at.

NUMBERS MATTER
11%. The average CMO has an 11% chance of exceeding CEO and CFO expectations, and only 15% of CEOs see their CMO as strongly AI-savvy, per Gartner research written up in CMSWire by one of its own analysts. Sixty-five percent of CMOs expect the role to change dramatically inside two years.
Two numbers, one job. The second is the one you can move this quarter.
DAILY PROMPT
The full Technical SEO Audit Checklist Generator from the hub. A buying agent reads the same signals a crawler does, and most catalogs are not ready for either:
Produce a comprehensive technical SEO audit checklist for a [INDUSTRY] website with [APPROXIMATE_MONTHLY_TRAFFIC] monthly organic traffic. Crawl or research the live site, verify current threshold values for performance and indexation signals through web research, and analyze any files I attach before you write the checklist.
## Context
- Website URL: [WEBSITE_URL]
- Current ranking positions: [TOP_KEYWORDS_AND_RANKINGS] (e.g., "Keyword 1: Position 15, Keyword 2: Position 8")
- Primary target audience: [TARGET_AUDIENCE]
- Website platform/CMS: [PLATFORM] (e.g., WordPress, Shopify, custom)
- Known issues or concerns: [KNOWN_ISSUES] (e.g., "slow page speed, duplicate content, crawl errors")
- Attached evidence: [ATTACHED_FILES] (crawl exports, Search Console performance and indexing exports, log file samples, analytics exports)
- Competitors to benchmark against: [COMPETITOR_DOMAINS]
- Engineering capacity available: [DEV_CAPACITY]
## Audit Scope
Create a prioritized technical SEO audit checklist organized by impact and effort. Include:
1. **Core Web Vitals & Performance** - Page speed, LCP, INP, CLS metrics and current passing thresholds
2. **Crawlability & Indexation** - Robots.txt, sitemaps, crawl errors, URL structure, render behavior
3. **Site Architecture** - Internal linking, breadcrumbs, URL hierarchy, pagination, faceted navigation
4. **Mobile & Responsive Design** - Mobile-first indexing readiness, viewport configuration, parity with desktop
5. **Structured Data & Schema** - JSON-LD implementation, rich results eligibility, schema validation
6. **Technical Issues** - Redirects, canonicals, hreflang tags, SSL/HTTPS
7. **Content Optimization** - Meta tags, heading hierarchy, keyword placement, thin and duplicate pages
8. **Server & Hosting** - Server response time, uptime, CDN usage, caching rules
9. **Security & Compliance** - HTTPS, security headers, consent and privacy requirements
10. **AI Search Visibility** - Crawler access rules, citation-ready page structure, entity clarity
## Output Format
For each section, provide:
- **Audit Item**: Specific element to check
- **Why It Matters**: Impact on SEO and user experience
- **How to Check**: Tools and methods (Search Console, PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, Screaming Frog, log analysis)
- **Priority Level**: Critical, High, Medium, Low
- **Estimated Effort**: Hours needed to fix, and whether engineering is required
- **Expected Impact**: Estimated traffic or ranking effect, with your reasoning
- **Evidence**: The file, URL sample, or query that supports the finding
## Additional Requirements
- Highlight quick wins (high impact, low effort) that should be tackled first
- Benchmark the site against [COMPETITOR_DOMAINS] and typical [INDUSTRY] standards, citing the sources you used
- Suggest a 30/60/90 day implementation roadmap sized to [DEV_CAPACITY]
- Include metrics to track progress and how often to review them
- Flag any finding you could not verify from the attached evidence or the live site
Write the checklist so a marketing team can execute or brief it without deep technical knowledge, then tell me which three items you would sequence first and why.Run it before the holiday freeze, and when it returns the checklist, sort it by what an automated buyer would hit first: price accuracy, stock truth, variant clarity. An agent that hits a wrong price once stops recommending you, and never says why.
CMO CORNER
If your team needs constant reminders, your system lacks clarity.
An agent with a card is a junior with a budget and no manager. Everything you would insist on before handing that to a person applies here, unwritten: what it may buy, up to what, from whom, and what happens at the exception. EY found 47% of companies skip their own governance when a deployment is urgent.
The fix is the one you already use on people. Decide once, in writing, then stop watching.

If agents are about to transact on your behalf, the governance question stops being theoretical: Scaling & Governance Starter Kit.
It covers who signs off on an autonomous action, what gets logged, and how to retire a system that has stopped earning its place. Built for the leader answering the CFO's version of the question, which is always about money moving without a person.
